Hello FMCP Stewardship Team! Climate Change Awareness Week is an annual observation in which organizations raise awareness to the rising global emissions which affect climate change. Scientists have reported that we must cap global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius to avoid catastrophic effects of climate change.
At Flushing Meadows Corona Park, our stewardship team will be participating in raising awareness to climate change by planting a Hackberry Tree on September 21st. Hackberry trees are well known for their extensive root systems which stabilizes soil and prevents erosions. They are also known for creating shade and supporting our ecosystems, providing a habitat and food for wildlife.
We are looking for volunteers to help us prep the site of the tree planting/climate change by removing bamboo growth a week prior to the climate change event. Please review below for more information about this volunteer opportunity.
