Community Events and Opportunities at FMCP
Here’s a glimpse at the programs that the Alliance for Flushing Meadows Corona Park supports and produces in our park each year. Check our calendar regularly as it is always being updated with new events — or sign up for our newsletter to receive updates straight to your inbox!
Stewardship Team: volunteer opportunities and environmental appreciation events in the park. The Stewardship Team supports NYC Parks efforts to combat climate change in FMCP and gets our community involved in New York City’s native habitats. Sign up for the Stewardship Team’s mailing list here. Currently funded by generous grants from Con Edison and Citizens Bank. Check out a recap of our most recent event here.
Art in the Parks: Two annual art installations in the park, paid via $10,000 grants directly to local artists in Queens. See current artworks here.
Free Outdoor Fitness Classes: Throughout the summer and into the fall, the Alliance provides free outdoor fitness classes under the Unisphere. Offerings include Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, and more! Check out our fitness page for more information when these classes return in the spring.
Summer Music Series: Regular music pop-ups in Dinkins Circle, with Queens College students paid by AFMCP to perform their art in a public setting. These mini-concerts provide a soundtrack for one of the main entrances to the park.
Silent Disco: 2-3 events each summer next to the Unisphere where anyone can come dance to lively music for free — this one is a community favorite!
Salsa Concerts: 2-3 free concerts annually next to the Unisphere, where the intrepid Salsa Warriors perform danceable salsa classics for the community
Movies Under the Stars: free outdoor movies in the summer, normally hosted in conjunction with the Queens Borough President or Queens City Councilmembers.
World's Fair History Walks: monthly free history tours from spring to the fall that focus on the World's Fair monuments in the park. Walks led by volunteer docents. AFMCP also offers private tours for any groups that request them.
Conservation Corps: Annual workforce development program offered in partnership with New York City’s Summer Youth Employment Program. Each summer, high school students from around the city receive paid positions in Flushing Meadows Corona Park where they gain experience towards careers environmental management.
