Spoil into Soil
/Sunday, November 21, 2021 was Spoil into Soil, our event in partnership with Big Reuse and the NYC Compost Project. Thanks to the representatives from Big Reuse, after a discussion on how important composting is, volunteers were able to prep the Meadow Lake Rain Garden for the winter months by spreading fallen leaves topped with compost, which helps to add nutrients into the soil. By the time Spring gets around, we will have ideal planting conditions after cultivating what is left over from this process. This was following by invasive plant removal, specifically mugwort. Together, we removed over 20 bags of the meddling weed and trash along with a pickup truck bed full of mugwort! This is awesome! Some of the mugwort was taken by Big Reuse to be turned into compost.
Volunteers enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day in the park while putting their time to excellent use. We are closer to getting the Rain Garden fully restored, thank to our devoted and hard working volunteers and Super Stewards. With your help, we will get this garden back to its pristine form in no time! Check out some great photos from Spoil into Soil!
