Meddling Mugwort

Sunday, November 7, 2021 was our Meddling Mugwort event, a continuation of our first event, the Fall Kickoff. Volunteers of all ages and experience levels continued to remove mugwort from various sections of the Rain Garden. Together, over 30 garbage bags of mugwort was removed from the garden! It looks much cleaner and defined, thanks to the 19 volunteers in attendance. Removal of the muugwort is imperative, as it can withstand the cold weather of winter months and continue growing where it is not wanted. Some of the mugwort removed at this event were well over 6 feet tall! Volunteers were also able to remove trash hidden in the garden, from broken kites to busted soccer balls.

Our volunteers’ hard work has definitely made a difference in this area of the park and will be noticed and appreciated by all strolling by on the Meadow Lake Trail. This event has helped to make way for our next event, in which we will apply compost to garden sections that have been previously cleared of invasive plants. Great job to all our volunteers and Super Stewards who came out on a beautiful Fall day to help restore and enhance the gardens around Meadow Lake!
