Bat Bash
/Saturday, October 30, 2021 was Bat Bash! Despite the light rain in the beginning, our stewards persevered and the sun eventually peeked through, drying everything out! Volunteers got the chance to meet Keeper Sosha of the Queens Zoo, who educated us on bats in NYC and at FMCP. She also shared a preserved bat skeleton for volunteers to see, how cool! The children participated in a bat craft made from fallen Sugar Maple leaves found right in the park and all volunteers received a bunch of Halloween goodies! Volunteers then made their way down the Pat Dolan Trail with the help of Super Steward Jacqueline Colson, who guided stewards and explained to them exactly how to identify Porcelain Berry, the targeted invasive plant being removed. In total, we removed 14 garbage bags of Porcelain Berry, incredible!
All the hard work done by our volunteers will definitely be noticed by our trail users and will help keep the trail passable and safe for all. Thank you again to our guests and our volunteers for all your help in making this event possible! View some photos from Bat Bash!
