Established in 1990, The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York was organized to preserve the tradition of dragon boat racing as practiced in Hong Kong, foster participation in the sport, and promote awareness, understanding, and knowledge of Hong Kong culture. It aims to achieve this through the organization of dragon boat racing festivals and related events, while also cooperating with other organizations with similar goal. The inaugural festival in 1990 was held on the Hudson River in Battery Park City. Since 1991, the festival has been held at Flushing Meadows Corona Park
