Reed Removal Volunteer Event

On Saturday, April 2, 2022, volunteers participated in the Environmental Stewardship Team’s Reed Removal event! Together, over 50 feet of phragmites, a very pesky subspecies of common reed, was removed from the bank of Meadow Lake. The Bird Blind area was cleared and finally made accessible again after being overrun with phragmites during the COVID-19 pandemic, in which our volunteer force was unable to be utilized. This event is part of an ongoing effort this season to get the Bird Blind back into pristine condition, allowing visitors to discreetly view the waterfowl and wildlife here at FMCP in Meadow Lake. This event has also cleared much needed space for the Spring plantings that will take place here in a couple of weeks for Earth Week! Check out some great photos from this event.
