Join the Environmental Stewardship Team and artist Amy Youngs for an augmented reality tour + planting at Willow Lake!
Youngs’ work harnesses technology as a medium to connect humans empathetically with the biodiversity, symbioses, and unseen worlds in our natural environment. Her latest project, Becoming Biodiversity, is a guided app tour of the Pat Dolan Trail, which consists of mixed-reality animations and storytelling as an overlay to the actual park. The viewer re-enacts stories from the perspectives of non-humans, such as a plant calling out to a bird to help with pest control, an ant planting spring flowers while feeding her babies, an underground fungal network delivering goods to struggling trees, and a cormorant searching for a meal in a man-made lake.
We will start off the event with the Becoming Biodiversity tour, follow up with a Q&A with the artist and the Urban Park Rangers, and conclude with a planting session. Please download the free Becoming Biodiversity app to participate in the tour, and wear sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty since the trail can be muddy. We will begin the tour at the Mauro Playground entrance to the Pat Dolan Trail at 10am.
